 Where Your Writing Leads You

Where Your Writing Leads You The word ‘essay’ is derived from the French word “essai”, which means ‘attempt’. Michel de Montaigne (1533 – 1592), was the first person to write his works in essays. Essays are written in prose and are usually brief; it is also elaborative on a selected subject/topic. Some of the famous early writers of essays are Francis Bacon, Richard Steele, Joseph Addison, William Hazlitt, Charles Lamb, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thomas Babington Macaulay, George Orwell, E.B. White, Walter Bagehot and Aldous Huxley. Essays are classified into literary or non-literary, which is used as an essential tool for evaluation in many levels of academic education.

A good essay should have a correct introduction, proper division of paragraphs, a suitable development of ideas being discussed, and an appropriate conclusion. There are different types of essays and such are narrative, critical, argumentative, expository, persuasive and personal.

Writing essays is one of the hardest tasks that modern technology has yet to make easier for students and enthusiasts. Although everything nowadays is as simple as the tap of a button, but the process of formulating thoughts into a winning written piece still carries on from an old style pace.

Essay writing requires a lot of hard work, thorough research, rational organization of thoughts and refined writing style. It is predictable why a lot of college students continue to resist this writing activity as it requires a lot of thinking at the same time. And formulating ideas that is continuous in flow and thought all the while gives the activity that extra drag and exhaustion. However, there are good reasons why writing essays is considered more valuable than taxing. These are:

  • Intellectual development.
  • Knowledge internalization.
  • Good practice.
  • Feedback generation.

Because listening alone does not guarantee internalization of knowledge. The possession of knowledge is most achieved when it is applied in writing. And writing essays is the best way to internalize and absorb the facts that has been read or heard. College essays are intellectually stimulating, and paving for intellectual development. It is also a healthy way to improve one’s ability in writing, which is crucial in many major college exams.

 Break Free in Your Essay

Break Free in Your EssayEssay writing is a taxing work, especially if it means college essays, and I’m sure most students feel the same way. It becomes distressing when one has to construct an idea and make a content body out of it, especially when we’re not prepared. Essay exams can be such an awful pressure. Generating a write-up could run smooth if it is not subject to time pressure. If one is expected to write well, he must have his OWN TIME so he can think thoroughly and make use of words wisely. He must have his own time to be constructive and creative. Because even if one is not blessed with a sharp mind to think fast and pen down simultaneously, he can make a satisfying masterpiece if given the freedom of his own time. And even if you do not have the talent to write freely without thinking deliberately, you can still do well if you own your time, but that of course if time is escorted with discipline. Otherwise, it makes no significance.

The good thing about writing essays is being able to express in your own words what you are ought to comprehend, maybe a general opinion of a specific study or your point of view of a certain subject. One very effective tip to be able to do this is to TALK ON PAPER. Haven’t you noticed that when we are actually talking our ideas flow smoothly and it becomes easy to generate topics because we feel we are in control of whatever we’ll say. It’s as if we are in authority, because we are free. Try to do that in paper, write whatever you want and break free. And when you’re done you can arrange the ideas neatly. Your goal is to let your thoughts out of your brain shell. Well, this only applies when you are not subject to time pressure. This suits well when your essay is not to be submitted until another day or week. Writing essays can be tough if you’re not sure what you are going to write down. Your inability to comprehend a certain subject may trick you. In order to loose free from such odd, just write whatever you want. Write the way you understood it. After all, we are not born stupid. Even if you don’t know what you’re talking about you will eventually come around with the thought of the matter. And besides it is essay, which means sharing and expressing your OWN ideas so break free.

Great ways to free your imagination are to give yourself breaks - be it taking a nap, going for a walk or playing a game (say casino en ligne if your essay happens to be a French one!). This re-engages your mind and you will find yourself more inspired when returning to work for sure!
